Alight Motion Crashing or Freezing? How to Fix It (2026 Guide)

Alight Motion keeps crashing, freezing, or stuttering on your phone? Before trying random fixes, it helps to answer one question first: does it happen in one specific project, or everywhere in the app? The answer points to completely different causes — and different fixes. This guide walks you through a safe diagnostic path, from quick checks to a last-resort reinstall. Part of our Alight Motion troubleshooting hub.

First: Is It One Project or the Whole App?

This distinction matters more than anything else here:

  • One project crashes, others work fine → the problem is almost certainly something inside that project: too many layers, a problematic video or image, a heavy effect, or a corrupted project file.
  • The app crashes everywhere → on launch, in menus, in every project → the problem is app-wide: storage pressure, an app bug, a bad update, or device limitations.

Open a simple project (or start a new blank one) and use the app for a minute. If it’s stable there, follow the project-specific section. If it crashes everywhere, skip to the app-wide section.

Quick, Safe Fixes (Try These First)

These are harmless and fix a surprising number of crashes:

  1. Force-close and reopen the app. A stuck process or a bad state in memory clears on restart.
  2. Restart your phone. Clears temporary system issues and frees up resources the app needs.
  3. Close background apps. Video editing is demanding; other apps competing for resources make crashes more likely.
  4. Free up storage. Alight Motion needs working space for caches and temp files. If your storage is nearly full, clear space and retry.

If Only One Project Crashes

Lighten the project

Resource-heavy projects — many layers, high-resolution media, stacked effects, long timelines — are the most common cause of project-specific crashes. The app has to hold all of that in memory while you edit. Try: lowering the preview quality, reducing the project resolution, or splitting a long project into shorter segments you export separately.

Isolate the problematic media or effect

A single corrupt video file, an unusual image format, or one heavy effect can crash an otherwise fine project. Work on a duplicate of the project (never the original), then remove or replace elements one at a time — effects first, then media files — testing after each change until the crashing stops. Whatever you removed last was the likely culprit.

Check for a corrupted project

If a project crashes the moment you open it and nothing inside it seems unusual, the project file itself may be damaged. If you have an exported video or a backup of the project, rebuild from that rather than fighting the broken file.

If the Whole App Crashes

Update the app

Crashes on launch or in menus are often bugs that an update fixes. Check your app store for a newer version of Alight Motion and install it.

Clear the app cache

Go to Settings > Apps > Alight Motion > Storage and clear the cache (not data). Cached files can become corrupted and cause repeated crashes; clearing the cache doesn’t touch your projects.

Free up significant storage

App-wide instability often traces back to a nearly full phone. Aim to keep comfortable free space — move photos and videos off the device, uninstall unused apps, and clear downloads.

Consider device limitations honestly

Video editing is one of the most demanding things a phone does. On older or low-end devices, complex projects may simply exceed what the hardware handles smoothly. If crashes cluster around heavy projects on an older phone, simplifying projects (fewer layers, lower preview resolution) is the realistic fix — not a settings trick.

Third-party app packages

If you installed Alight Motion from outside the official app store and crashes started with that install, the package itself may be at fault. We make no safety claims about specific files — but a clean install from the official store is the way to rule this out. See our guide on whether mod APKs are safe for background.

Back Up Your Projects Before Anything Destructive

Warning: before clearing app data, uninstalling, or reinstalling, assume your projects are at risk. Export finished work as video, and back up project files however you can. Clearing cache is safe; clearing data and uninstalling are not.

Reinstall as a Last Resort

Only reinstall after you’ve tried everything above and backed up your projects. Uninstall Alight Motion, restart the phone, then install a fresh copy — preferably from the official app store. If the crashes persist even after a clean official install on a project that used to work, the remaining suspects are the device itself or a damaged project file.

Quick Checklist

  • Determine: one project or the whole app?
  • Restart the app, then the phone
  • Close background apps; free up storage
  • Project-specific: lighten it, isolate bad media/effects on a duplicate
  • App-wide: update the app, clear cache, free storage
  • Back up projects before anything destructive
  • Reinstall only as a last resort, from the official store

Why does Alight Motion crash only on one project?

That project is likely too heavy for your phone, or it contains a problematic media file or effect. Lighten the project or isolate the culprit on a duplicate copy — see the project-specific steps above.
